Every year 22nd March is celebrated as the World Water Day! Description: https://www.facebook.com/images/emoji.php/v8/f4c/1/16/1f642.png🙂

An NDTV article summarises the looming rural water crisis in India. It also reminds us that India is yet to meet the Sustainable Development Goal number 6 – ie providing access to safe potable water to everyone!!

Our water professionals in Geovale are working to help our clients to explore, exploit and conserve water resources all over the country. Water has been recklessly exploited by our urban and rural habitation, our agriculture and our industry.

Thus we see Bangalore wasting 50% of water during the supplies and almost 70 to 80% of the 1500 million litres of water supplied daily to Bangalore goes down the drain without much recycling.

Thus we see water table going down from 10 m depth to over 50 m depth in the Nauru sector of Gurgaon district in Haryana, down by more than 20 – 30 m in the rice growing region of Chhattisgarh, down by 50 m in the Malur region of Karnataka near Bangalore!

Water crisis will be accentuated with the impact of Global Warming and Climate Change. Thus in year 2015 – 2016 we saw water wars between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu (on Cauvery Tribunal judgement), between Odisha and Andhra (on Polavaram), between Punjab and Haryana on Satluj water sharing and absolute crisis for water in Marathwada reeling under more than 2 years of drought.

If we are looking for a sustainable solution to water crisis, we have to budget and account for every drop of water comprehensively. Central Ground Water Authority (CGWA) has its role cut out in managing and mitigating water risks by using modern tools of exploration, exploitation, monitoring, prevent waste and conservation.

Read the report on the global status of water in 2017 in the report entitled Wild Water, and find the state of water use and conservation in India.
